Photography enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to at this year’s Kalfiefees Hermanus Arts Festival. Photography talks will be presented in the Municipal Auditorium in Hermanus and images from the Hermanus Photographic Society and Hermies Photo Club will be on exhibit in the adjacent banquet hall. The Festival runs from 1 to 11 August.

Capture, share, inspire encapsulates the multifaceted impact of good photography as well as beyond mere visual representation. It advocates creating communities of photographers to create a compelling visual identity for municipalities/destinations/routes that highlights its unique attributes, fosters community pride and attracts visitors. It also emphasises the enduring value and influence of photographers in documenting and shaping our world, and by highlighting their unmeasured contributions to the economy and society.

10:00 Street Photography Presentation with Daniel Reddie

Daniel Reddie has more than 50 years’ experience as a photographer and is passionate about sharing the art of photography with the public. Discover how he looks at the world around him through the eyes of a photographer. The presentation includes a stroll through the streets of Hermanus – the group leaves at 11:30.

12:00 Sand, Sea and Surf Photography Presentation with Phil Sturgess

Walker Bay is a photographer’s dream! The presentation provides a simple framework that will help you to develop a photographer’s eye to see beyond the obvious.

11:00 Hermanus Historical Images Presentation with Dinkie Marais

Renowned photographer Dinkie Marais co-produced a book featuring photographs of Hermanus as it was in the early years.

He now works with the Hermanus History Society, and in this talk will be sharing the what, where, when and how featured in the book.
